Well, I'm not sure we can call thi independence as France continues to control its former colonies, but not in the usual way through military power, but through banks. Yes, France managed to keep its former colonies currency unde control by linking it fo Euro.

France continues to have an empire in Africa. You see, after the second world war, there was a wave of de-colonial movements in Both Africa and Asia, but France desperately wanted to keep its colonies and responded with force in Algeria, Madagascar and Indochina.
By 1960s, France granted independence to almost all of its colonies, but there was a catch. In exchange of its independence and foreign aid from France, an African country was made to sign a cooperation agreement with France through which they gave France rights over natural resources, allow them to maintain troops on their territory and also keep the CFA currency.
France made this look like a choice but when Guinea rejected this, France gave an example and cut all the aid to Guinea and did everything they could to destabilize their government and they succeeded, because Guinea never recovered.
The countries that use CFA Franc have no monetary sovereignty as the value of their currency is linked to the EURO giving this way a new face to Imperialism which used to be spread by tanks, but now, it is spread by banks.
