I spotted this drawer in the hallway in the give away spot and thought at first it was a canvas from a distance. When I got closer I realized it was an old drawer but thought it would still work for a painting.
I cleaned the whole thing then sanded the edges and bottom and then primed the bottom of the drawer to be paintable. After that I sealed the edges and sides with a satin clear coat but left the drawer interior stained and messy.
The painting took a while, mostly because the monochromatic is hard to blend in subtle grades. It has a tendency to dry a bit darker or lighter than I intended so I wound up reworking it a lot. The imagery comes from paint swirls/splatters that I use as reference material. What I see changes as time goes on but at the moment I see some shells on the top left, on the right floating in the sky an acorn shaped creature. There is a tiny apple in the far top right and on the bottom left a bird with a pear.
The weird ball egg shape at the bottom reminds me of a spiders nest or maybe a dragon egg. There is a scary face on the bottom left. Floating in the center along a line is kind of billowy underwater elements. I can’t tell if they are rising up into the sky or sinking down below.
The song is a compilation I made using GarageBand which is free to download from Soundcloud, edit and use with credit to Andyshouse or Andy Collins. The link is below:
