In 1993, Jean-Claude Romand killed his wife, children, and parents before trying to kill himself in a crime that shocked France. These terrible murders captured the imagination of writer Emmanuel Carrère who spent years covering the story. His non-fiction book ‘The Adversary’ published in 2000, clearly influenced by Truman Capote’s In Cold Bloods deals with the Romand murders.
