Helping women overcome the challenges they face in achieving and maintaining good heart health is vital to the overall health of our community. The Go Red for Women Luncheon addresses this need by providing an educational program and raising awareness among women about the dangers of cardiovascular disease, providing them with practical means to control risk factors.
According to Life's Simple 7®...a heart-healthy diet includes foods low in saturated and trans fat, cholesterol, sodium and added sugars, and foods high in whole grain fiber, lean protein, and a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. "A healthy diet is one of your best weapons for fighting cardiovascular disease. Incorporating 3-4 servings of soy protein across the day can be as simple as using soymilk with your cereal or replacing half of the meat in a recipe, such as ground beef, with soy crumbles", explains Ratna Mukherjea.
Recent studies show that more than 90% of us fail to consistently eat a heart-healthy diet. Our poor eating habits mean more of us have risk factors for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.
