First up, Election Day has passed and most races have been called.
We’re headed into a period called a “Lame Duck” legislative session where congress is expected to work on and pass an NDAA.
As it stands, the Senate bill does NOT include the Countering CCP Drones Act language, while the House Of Representatives NDAA bill does.
This puts us in a good position as it’s unlikely, but not impossible, that the language will be included in the final bill.
Timing is currently unclear and it’s possible legislative leaders will use the upcoming holidays as “deadlines” in an attempt to force certain actions.
What can you do?
Engage with your Representatives and Senators to continue educating them.
Explain how this bill would affect your business and livelihood.
While you’re at it, be sure to comment on the American Security Drone Act, which was passed last year.
As a refresher, this bill bans the use or procurement of UAS that are manufactured or assembled by China, with some exceptions.
The bill passed last year and now an interim rule is in effect.
Now is a fantastic time to comment and share how this rule impacts your operations as a federal contractor or someone who uses federal grant money for your operation.
This new rule has an open comment period until January 13th, 2025.
Next up, Skydio has purchased 114 patent Assets from GoPro.
GoPro is known for its action cameras but had a short entry into the UAS industry with the GoPro Karma back in 2016.
It’s unclear how many of these patents related to the Karma vs how many relate to action cameras or other camera technology.
Last up, images have surfaced of what appears to be a crashed DJI Enterprise drone with three cameras and a laser range finder.
The crashed drone appears to have an integrated RTK Module and SDK Port on top of the Mavic-like body.
Our speculation is that this is likely a Mavic 4 Enterprise or similar aircraft.
This is also interesting as it’s the first of the leaks we’ve seen for a new DJI enterprise aircraft.
We’ll keep you updated if we see more!
That’s all for this week, we’ll see you later in the community for Happy Hour and on Monday for our Q&A!
