At the end of July, Ms. Antonia Gorri joyfully received the keys to her new Hollywood home, thanks to the Home Buyer Purchase Assistance Program. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Josh Levy, Vice Mayor Linda Hill Anderson, Assistant City Manager Raelin Story, Broward County officials, and Community Development staff.
The City acquired and completely renovated the property using State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) funds, making it available for sale to eligible households.
Ms. Gorri had been renting an apartment in Hollywood, paying approximately $1,600 per month in rent. With her lease expiring in August and a rent increase to $1,800 per month, the opportunity to purchase her own home came at the perfect time. Her mortgage, including property taxes and insurance, is now roughly $1,400 per month.
After noticing a property advertised within the Hollywood community, Ms. Gorri quickly submitted her pre-approval paperwork. Upon being notified as a priority buyer, she worked with the City of Hollywood Community Development Division and Broward County Housing Finance Division to make her dream of homeownership a reality.
Mayor Levy, Vice Mayor Anderson, and Community Development staff welcomed Ms. Gorri to her new home, where she proudly provided a tour. She is deeply appreciative of the opportunity and looks forward to calling Hollywood “home” for many years to come.
