Preliminary efficacy and safety of ibogaine for the treatment of methadone dependence.

ABSTRACT
Methadone is commonly used for the treatment of opioid dependence, but its long-term use can lead to adverse effects and dependence. Ibogaine has been suggested to be effective in treating opioid dependence. However, no controlled studies have been published with this substance and there is only one Phase-I trial informing about the pharmacokinetics of a dose of 20 mg of ibogaine. In 2020, ICEERS started the recruitment for a randomised and double-blind trial aiming to investigate the safety and efficacy of repeated, low doses of ibogaine in the treatment of methadone dependence. In this presentation, the data on first administrations (100 mg ibogaine) of 14 participants will be presented.
