In this video, we’ll be exploring charming lakeside towns, we’ll ride the cable car to the highest mountain peak in the Black Forest, we’ll hike in search of waterfalls, we’ll stay at a historic hotel with ties to a famous queen, we’ll eat our fill of Black Forest cake because that’s precisely what you do around these parts, and so much more!

🏞️ Black Forest Road Trip: Car, Cake & Cable Car Adventure

Mini Cooper EV Pickup

“What do you think of the new ride?” Sam marvels at our pint-sized electric Mini Cooper—perfect for winding Black Forest roads.

Flammkuchen Lunch in Titisee

First stop: Zey Blick lakeside café in Titisee. We savour the dessert Flammkuchen (paper-thin crust, apples, raisins, cinnamon), just €12–14 each—light, local and delicious.

Boat Tour on Lake Titisee

Board the replica Roman galley “Titus” for lore of Emperor Titus and 1½-hour cruise.

Learned the lake’s drinking-quality water ban on motorboats and spotted anglers on the shore.

Check-In at Hofgut Sternen

Drive to Hofgut Sternen, the historic Black Forest inn where Marie Antoinette once stayed (May 1770).

Dropped our bags in bright, cozy rooms before venturing out.

Ravenna Viaduct Discovery

Hidden gem right behind the hotel: the stone-arch Ravenna Viaduct, rebuilt after wartime destruction and echoing its French “ravine” origins.

Enchanted Forest Walk

Moss-covered stones, fallen logs, crisp air and filtered golden light—we wander under towering pines, praising the forest’s tranquil beauty.

Giant Cuckoo Clock at Hofgut Sternen

Back at the inn, we witness the world’s largest cuckoo clock and browse its in-house shop for authentic Black Forest souvenirs.

4-Course Dinner at the Hotel

Paired white wine (Audrey) & red (Sam).

Courses: Wild-herb salad with apple chutney → Creamy paprika soup → Pork tenderloin, mushrooms & mash → Crème brûlée with lingonberries.

Bread warning: Resist the delicious rolls, or you’ll spoil your main!

Schluchsee Lakeside Stroll & Boat Rental

Day 2: Scenic drive to Schluchsee, the Black Forest’s largest lake.

Rented a rowboat (€15/30 min, €25/hr) for serene paddling and stunning reflections.

Sankt Blasien Cathedral Visit

Explored the tiny town’s St. Blasius Cathedral, named for the martyred saint—admired its stark white interior and legendary head sculpture.

Hearty Lunch Across from Cathedral

Shared meat-dumpling soup with bacon & savoury goulash; ended with a classic Black Forest cake—all for €30 total (appetizer, main, dessert, two drinks).

Waterfall Hike near Menzenschwand

Short, family-friendly trail leads in less than 5 min to cascading falls—an easy but rewarding nature break.

Cable Car to Feldberg Summit

Ascend to 1 493 m on the Feldbergbahn (€14 adult ticket).

Highest Black Forest peak outside the Alps; on clear days you can glimpse the Swiss mountains—and even shared the summit with grazing cows.
