Interstellar is a science fiction epic set in a dystopian future where Earth is facing environmental collapse. The planet is plagued by massive dust storms, failing crops, and dwindling resources, making humanity’s future uncertain. In this world, Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a former NASA pilot turned farmer, struggles to provide a future for his children, Murph and Tom.

Cooper is recruited by a secret NASA project led by Professor Brand (Michael Caine). NASA has discovered a wormhole near Saturn, believed to have been placed by an unknown intelligence, which could lead to habitable planets in another galaxy. The mission’s objective is to find a new home for humanity. Cooper agrees to pilot the spacecraft Endurance, joining a team of scientists including Brand’s daughter, Amelia (Anne Hathaway), to explore three potentially habitable planets orbiting a supermassive black hole named Gargantua.

As the team journeys through the wormhole, they face enormous scientific and emotional challenges. The effects of time dilation near the black hole mean that hours on these planets equate to years on Earth. This strains Cooper’s relationship with his daughter Murph, who grows up bitter and confused over his departure.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Murph (played as an adult by Jessica Chastain) becomes a brilliant scientist working alongside Brand, trying to solve a gravity equation that could allow humanity to escape Earth via a massive space station. She eventually discovers that her father’s mission and Brand's promises were part of a deeply flawed plan — a "Plan B" was to colonize a new planet using frozen embryos, not to save the people of Earth.

As the Endurance crew explores each planet, they are met with disappointment and peril. One world is uninhabitable due to time dilation, another has a stranded astronaut (Dr. Mann, played by Matt Damon) who turns hostile to protect his own life. Ultimately, Cooper sacrifices himself by diving into the black hole to send crucial quantum data back to Earth.

Inside the black hole, Cooper experiences a surreal, fifth-dimensional space — a tesseract — which allows him to communicate with Murph across time using gravity. He sends her the quantum data through her childhood watch, enabling her to solve the equation and save humanity.
