I Didn’t Like Moana 2 (And I Wanted To!) I love Moana. It’s one of my all-time favorite Disney films, so I had high hopes for Moana 2. Unfortunately, it didn’t deliver. The movie felt like a rushed TV series crammed into a film. The voyage, which was set up to take a long time, sped by without depth. There were too many new characters, none of whom were developed enough to care about—except Moana and Maui, since we already knew them. I miss classic Disney villains. The antagonist had potential with a cool song and sidekick vibes but disappeared halfway through. The actual villain was barely present, which made the stakes feel weak. That said, Maui losing his tattoos and reuniting with Moana was beautifully emotional, balancing out the silliness. Still, the original film did this balance much better. As for the music? It didn’t hit the mark. Following Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work was tough, but this soundtrack didn’t even make my playlist. Oh, and Tamatoa’s cameo in the credits? Loved it. Still waiting on that plush, Disney!
