The threat of deforestation for charcoal production is quickly rising - poverty and the rising demand for charcoal have forced people to cut the trees to make ends meet.
We had to do something about this, which is why Baraka incorporated deforestation education information into every community training session, reaching over 500 women.
Baraka also incentivizes land owners to keep their shea trees by paying them a premium for their shea nuts. This not only helps the ecosystem, but provides a sustainable source of income for the community.
We also launched a circular economy, fuel to waste program which works by using shea waste as fues for the next shea butter production.
