In the 4th module of the "Creating Pulse and Feel" Lab, we discuss using the correct "mix" on the drum kit. Each music style has a very specific mix of the instruments on the drum set, to effectively communicate the music. If the mix in your playing is off, the beats won't groove, the mix can feel too heavy or light and will not sound "convincing" for the given music style. This module has a discussion of what mixes of instrument levels are needed for various styles.
