India: Holie Holiday. Colorful Melodies of Spring

An authentic Indian composition dedicated to the Holi festival — the celebration of colors and spring. The piece combines the traditional sound of classical instruments (sitar, tabla, bansuri, shehnai) with expressive Hindustani-style vocals. The music narrates legends about Holika and Prahlad, the playful games of Krishna and Radha, conveying an atmosphere of joy and spiritual renewal. The composition follows the structure of classical Indian music, beginning with a meditative alap and reaching its culmination in an energetic tillana, before returning to a peaceful conclusion. Perfect for Holi celebrations, meditation, yoga, and immersion in India's rich culture.

The Legend of Holi Colors (English)
In ancient times, when gods often descended from the Himalayan heavens, there lived a demoness named Holika, sister of King Hiranyakashipu. The king was proud and demanded that everyone worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. But his son Prahlad remained a devoted follower of Vishnu.
Enraged, the king ordered his sister Holika, who possessed immunity to fire, to destroy his disobedient son. Holika sat the boy on her lap and entered a blazing fire. But a miracle occurred — Prahlad began chanting mantras, invoking Vishnu, and divine protection enveloped him. Holika burned to ashes while the boy remained unharmed.
The next day, people gathered ashes from the fire and applied them to each other's foreheads as a symbol of good's triumph over evil. Since then, Indians celebrate Holi — the festival of colors, representing the victory of love and light.
In Rajasthan villages, women sing bhajans accompanied by dholak and tabla, remembering the love story of Krishna and Radha. It is said that dark-skinned Krishna once complained to his mother about his skin color, worried that fair-skinned Radha would reject him. His wise mother advised him to paint Radha's face in different colors. Since then, lovers paint each other with bright gulal colors made from turmeric, pomegranate, and other natural ingredients.
During Holi, the sounds of shehnai spread across the Ganges valley, mixing with joyful exclamations of "Bura na mano, Holi hai!" (Don't be offended, it's Holi!). People sing and dance to the sounds of mridanga, harmonium, and sitar. The palash tree with its fiery red flowers also becomes a symbol of the festival, reminiscent of Holika's pyre and the spring awakening of nature.
