✅ Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
➡️ ERP is the heart of OCD therapy. Exposure activities are conducted with an OCD therapist at first, with clients learning to conduct ERP solo over time.
✅ No Reassurance
➡️ An OCD Therapist never gives reassurance. Reassurance is specifically detrimental for those with OCD, though it may not be harmful for those without OCD.
✅ Not Talk Therapy (mostly)
➡️ While OCD therapy naturally involves talking, talking is not the focus. ERP therapy is a skills-based treatment that is behavioral in nature. This means you learn techniques to reduce avoidance and compulsions, how to conduct behavioral experiments to confront your fears, as well as ways to combat unhelpful thinking patterns.
