Carsten and I are both pretty much newbies when it comes to Orange amps, and so we jumped at the chance to get in the room with the brand’s iconic Rockerverb 50 MKIII head. A UK-made, all-tube beast with two monstrous channels and a genuine spring reverb, the Rockerverb is an absolute tonal weapon.
Alongside the Rockerverb, we plugged into two of Orange’s FX pedals – the criminally underrated Getaway Driver overdrive and the Fur Coat octave fuzz – to see how the Rockerverb would cope with them. The Getaway Driver is a classic “amp in a box” drive pedal voiced after Orange’s rock and roll amplifiers from the 1970s, while the Fur Coat is based on the iconic Foxx Tone Machine fuzz.
Guitar-wise, we’re plugged into the 2024 Ibanez RG550-EB – a perfect axe for someone with the chops of Carsten! This guitar is part of the Ibanez Genesis Collection and it’s outfitted with Ibanez’s fast and slinky Super Wizard neck, 24 jumbo frets and a super versatile HSH pickup configuration. Combined with an Edge bridge and locking nut for divebombs galore, the RG550 is ideal for anyone who takes their riffs – and playing accurately at speed – seriously.
I hope you enjoy watching Carsten and me exploring the various tonal options of this mighty guitar rig! Let me know your thoughts on the tones in the comments, and let whether you think I should try more Orange gear in future!
