Incandescent and fluorescent bulbs differ in how they produce light and how efficiently they use energy. Incandescent bulbs create light by heating a metal filament until it glows, but this process wastes a lot of energy as heat, making them less efficient. In contrast, fluorescent bulbs use electricity to excite a gas, which then emits ultraviolet light that is converted into visible light by a special coating inside the bulb. This method is far more efficient, using much less energy to produce the same amount of light. Fluorescent bulbs also last much longer than incandescent ones.
