a.k.a. shell tympanum
Gouache on 8 x 10 Pink Pastel Paper
This monochromatic painting was made from the small reference paint swirl/splatter on the left outlined in black. When I make paint swirl/splatters they blend together in tiny intricate patterns and the details are amazing. That's where my subjects come from. I often wind up seeing something completely different at the end because I'm only painting the illusion of things or random acts of paint bleeding together. Tympanum is the arch over sculptures or statues in buildings, which is what I thought the shell looked like. Sitting under a natural arch.
