Lauterbrunnen: The Valley of 72 Waterfalls in the Swiss Alps💦 | Walking Tour in a Fairytale Village
Join me on a peaceful walking tour through Lauterbrunnen, one of the most breathtaking and iconic villages in Switzerland. Nestled in a deep alpine valley and surrounded by sheer cliffs, snow-capped peaks, and over 70 waterfalls, Lauterbrunnen feels like stepping into a storybook.
🗺️ Where is Lauterbrunnen and How to Get There?
Lauterbrunnen is located in the Bernese Oberland region of central Switzerland, between Interlaken and the high alpine villages of Wengen and Mürren.
🚗 By car: From Interlaken, drive about 25 minutes through stunning alpine scenery.
🚞 By train: Take the train from Interlaken Ost directly to Lauterbrunnen Station (20 min). From here, connections are available by cable car or cogwheel train deeper into the mountains.
This valley is one of the most scenic and accessible areas in the Swiss Alps — perfect for a day trip or a quiet mountain stay.
🏡 Charming Chalets & Alpine Village Life
Lauterbrunnen is famous for its wooden chalets, peaceful streets, and colorful flower boxes. The sound of cowbells echoes through the valley as the village life unfolds slowly — a perfect retreat from the modern world.
💦 Waterfall Wonders: Staubbach & Trümmelbach Falls
Towering above the village is Staubbach Falls, one of Europe’s highest free-falling waterfalls (297 m).
Just a short distance away, you’ll find Trümmelbach Falls — a series of powerful glacier-fed waterfalls hidden inside a mountain, accessible by tunnel-lift and stairs.
In total, Lauterbrunnen Valley is home to 72 waterfalls, each adding to the magic and mist of this fairytale location.
🥾 Alpine Trails, Panoramic Views & Peaceful Walks
Whether you follow the trail along the Lauterbrunnen River or hike up toward Wengen or Mürren, the area is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers.
Expect dramatic views, wooden bridges, grazing cows, and that signature Swiss serenity in every step.
🧀 Bernese Food & Mountain Flavors
Enjoy local dishes like rösti, mountain cheeses, and hearty stews at cozy village restaurants or alpine huts. The region is also known for fresh dairy, fruit syrups, and herbal teas made right in the valley.
The area is rich in Swiss alpine culture, with festivals, church bells, and stories passed down from generation to generation.
