We're back with another India video and this time we’ll be travelling to the India-Pakistan border to watch the border closing ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border before trying Pakistani food for the first time. This event is a must-do when you come to Amritsar! This ceremony marks the closing of the India-Pakistan border for the day and people travel from far and wide to witness the display of military showmanship dominated by stomping, high kicks, and exaggerated movements. To be honest, it reminded me of attending a live sporting event! It was high-energy and a lot of fun, with plenty of cheering, dancing, flag-waving and singing. Afterwards, we went to a local restaurant where we tried Pakistani food for the first time. We had chicken kebab, daal, mutton curry, and I was also challenged to eat a whole chilli.

Here is my Pakistan-India border closing ceremony experience from 2010:

INDIA-PAKISTAN Border Closing Ceremony at Attari-Wagah + Trying PAKISTANI FOOD For the First Time!

The Indian-Pakistan border ceremony takes place daily at the Attari-Wagah border just before sunset.

This military event is performed by India’s Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers, and it’s something that has been done since 1959.

Technically, the whole purpose behind the ceremony is to lower the national flag and officially close the border for the night, however, what takes place is a lively display featuring marching, stomping, and plenty of high-kicks, while the crowd cheers, and breaks into song and dance.

It’s energetic, it’s theatrical, and it’s an event you cannot miss whether you find yourself travelling in Amritsar or across the border in neighbouring Lahore!

In terms of trying Pakistani food for the first time we had the following food items at Sarhad Restaurant (Border Restaurant) Restaurant:

Chicken Seekh Kebab
Dahi K Kebab
Lahori Naan
Peshawari Naan
Mutton curry
Chicken curry
Dal
Lahori Khalifa Khatai

Now over to you? Have you tried Pakistani food before? Would going to the India-Pakistan Border Closing Ceremony be something you'd like to experience? Let us know in the comments below.

🇮🇳🇵🇰 Attari-Wagah Border Closing Ceremony + Pakistani Food Tasting | Amritsar, India Vlog

🚗 Journey to the India-Pakistan Border

Hey guys, Sam here! In today’s India adventure, we’re taking you on a one-of-a-kind experience: the legendary Attari-Wagah Border Closing Ceremony. Joined by Japneet and David, we make the short drive from Amritsar, picking up Indian flags to wave at the border and soaking up the excitement even before arriving.

🏟️ The Border Ceremony: High Energy & Patriotism

Arriving at the Wagah-Attari border, we’re greeted by a massive crowd and a stadium-like atmosphere. This isn’t just a ceremony—it’s a daily spectacle of military showmanship, high kicks, stomping, and intense choreography performed by India’s Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers.

No-Man’s Land: We witness the ceremonial lowering of the flags in a neutral zone separating the two nations.

Crowd Vibes: The event feels like a live sports match, with singing, dancing, flag-waving, and roaring cheers for Hindustan and Pakistan on both sides.

Pro Tip: Arrive early if you want good seats—the stadium fills up quickly!

🥘 Dinner at Sarhad: Our First Pakistani Food Experience

After the ceremony, hunger calls! We visit Sarhad (meaning “border”), a local restaurant specializing in authentic Pakistani dishes—a first for Sam and the crew.

Starters:

Lahari Chicken Seekh Kebab – tender, herb-filled kebabs served with zesty mint chutney.

Dahi ke Kebab – crispy yogurt kebabs, creamy inside, melting in your mouth.

Main Dishes & Bread:

Mutton Curry – fall-off-the-bone lamb in rich gravy.

Chicken Curry – flavorful, not too spicy, perfect for newcomers.

Miyajiki Dal – a lentil soup inspired by a legendary spot just across the border.

Lahore Naan with onion seeds and Peshawari Naan filled with nuts and dried fruit (slightly sweet, nutty, and a unique twist!).

Spice Challenge: Sam bravely attempts to eat a whole chili—his eyes water, his throat burns, but he survives the fiery ordeal for your entertainment!

🍨 Unique Dessert: Khalifa with Vanilla Ice Cream

We wrap up with a dessert new to all: Khalifa Khattai—a date-like Pakistani fruit served with vanilla ice cream and cookie crumbles. The sweetness and richness are perfectly balanced, and the ice cream smooths everything out. It’s the perfect end to a flavorful evening.
