We visited Rada Tilly on a day trip from the nearby city of Comodoro Rivadavia, which is about a 30-minute bus ride. Once we arrived in town, we admired the seaside homes all with very unique designs, we sampled some delicious Patagonian dishes at a restaurant located right on the beach, and then we also enjoyed a long walk on the beach with beautiful cliffside backdrops.
We hope you enjoyed the tour of Rada Tilly!
🌊 Discovering Rada Tilly: Argentina’s Southernmost Seaside Gem | Beach Walks, Food & Local Surprises 🇦🇷
🏖️ Welcome to Rada Tilly: Patagonia’s Seaside Paradise
Today we’re taking you to Rada Tilly, a picturesque coastal town in Patagonia, Argentina—famous for being the southernmost seaside resort in the country. Just 30 kilometers (about a half-hour bus ride) from Comodoro Rivadavia, this town offers one of the widest beaches we’ve ever seen, turquoise waters, and a surprisingly upscale vibe. Join us as we explore the town, savor Patagonian cuisine, stroll along the sand, and soak in local charm!
🚌 Getting There: Easy Day Trip from Comodoro Rivadavia
Transport: We hopped on a local “Rada Tilly” bus (buses depart every 20 minutes, super convenient!)
Fare: 55 pesos per person (less than $1 USD!) using a rechargeable bus card
Tip: Buy your card at the far booth in Comodoro’s small terminal, load a few fares, and you’re set
🌬️ First Impressions: Mansion-Lined Beaches & Turquoise Waters
Arriving at high tide, we found the Atlantic lapping right up to the shore. Despite the chill (the warmest it gets is 17°C/62°F!), the water’s Caribbean-like color, salty air, and endless coastline were mesmerizing.
Architecture: Homes along the coast are stunning—think Greek domes, Turkish arches, and pristine gardens. Each is unique, many are true mansions, and everything is spotless.
Town Vibe: Rada Tilly feels like an exclusive, beautifully maintained beach town—much more luxurious than expected.
🍽️ Patagonian Food with a View: Lunch at Hashtag In
We settled in at Hashtag In, a beachfront restaurant with rave reviews. Although known for sushi (only served in the evenings), the Patagonian menu wowed us:
Seafood Risotto: Buttery, cheesy, loaded with calamari, shrimp, mussels, and scallops
Patagonian Lamb: Served with saffron risotto, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly sauced
Bread & Wine: Warm bread with garlicky mayo and a delicious bottle of La Polerosa Patagonian wine
Dessert: Dulce de leche chocolate “vulcan”—a molten chocolate cake oozing caramel, paired with ice cream
Ambiance: Unbeatable—ocean views, sea breeze, great music, and gourmet food
Price: About $25 USD per person for three courses and wine—a splurge for Patagonia, but a top 3 meal of the whole trip!
🏛️ Local Culture: Regional Museum Visit
After a long, leisurely lunch, we explored Rada Tilly’s small but fascinating regional museum:
Exhibits: Taxidermy of local wildlife (giant sea lions, birds like the massive albatross), fossils, and more
Admission: 35 pesos (50 cents USD!)
Highlight: Seeing a massive sea lion up close—amazing after only seeing them from a distance on the Valdés Peninsula!
🐚 Beachcombing & Low Tide Wonders
With the tide out, Rada Tilly’s beach transformed into a vast expanse—one of the widest beaches you’ll ever walk. We spent time beachcombing for shells (with a little mishap—sorry, Mom!), taking in the salty air, and simply marveling at the transformation from high to low tide.
💡 Final Impressions & Travel Tips
Rada Tilly: A hidden gem with spectacular beaches, luxurious homes, and top-tier food.
Top Meal: Hashtag In is a must if you want a gourmet treat with the best beachfront views in town.
Chill Day: This is the perfect spot for sunshine, great eats, and long walks while waiting for your next adventure bus!
Budgeting: While you can eat cheaper elsewhere, Rada Tilly is worth a splurge for a memorable day.
