During a back and forth with reporters near the Southern Border this week, Vice President JD Vance made a strong implication that Donald Trump is considering launching a military “invasion” of Mexico to deal with border issues and drug cartels. When reporters tried to get more information out of him about a possible invasion, Vance refused to answer anything and tried desperately to move on to other questions when he realized his blunder. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains what happened.

Vice President, JD Vance took a trip down to the southern border of the United States this week where he accidentally implied that the United States is preparing a invasion of Mexico. He did so in a response from a News nation reporter who asked him the question. I mean, right now, obviously they've struck in the Houthis in Yemen, so why not when we've seen cross border violence go after them in Mexico. That was News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley, who seems to be goading on the administration. Like, why don't you guys just go attack 'em over there, you know, in a sovereign country. Why don't we just like, what a question from a reporter. Like, let's get that outta the way real quick. Uh, I had a lot of respect for News Nation. This guy just pretty much tanked all of it. But question, why not just go and attack somebody in a sovereign country? The reporter who doesn't understand borders asks, and JD Vance responded by saying this. So, look, I'm not going to make any announcements about any invasions of Mexico here today. The president has a megaphone, and of course, he'll speak to these issues as he feels necessary. Of course, the president is going to make the determination about how we deploy those forces. But our hope here, our hope is that Mexico takes this job seriously. We don't wanna have a negative relationship with the Mexican government.

That sounds like they're preparing an invasion. I mean, again, the President is going to make the determination about how we deploy those forces, not if we deploy those forces, how we're going to deploy the US military. That one word how kind of tells us everything. And he is like, I'm not gonna make any declarations today. You know, depending on which word you emphasize, in that sentence, that also tells us, he's like, I'm not gonna make an announcement today. I'm not gonna make an announcement today. I'm not gonna make an announcement today. I mean, there's a lot of implications with what he just said there. And of course, I'm not the only one who thought that because immediately a reporter for Univision, uh, which apparently does a much better job than News Nation with sending correspondence down to the border. The Univision correspondent asked, like, hold up. So you just mentioned something about invasion of Mexico. Is there any talk or any thoughts about actually US military forces going into Mexico? And Vance immediately goes, uh, no. Next question, like immediately, like, oh crap, I am the guy

In those memes. Now, uh, next question. Somebody else? Anybody? Somebody gimme something, somebody that's not about an invasion. Let's please switch the subject real quick because I'm a moron who said things I probably shouldn't have said. This is, uh, this seems pretty cut and dry, right? I mean, after all, um, starting in mid-February, the United States did in fact start sending drones over Mexican airspace to surveil the cartels. And, uh, based on the reporting at the time, it is not immediately evident that the Mexican government either knew of this or approved of it. So, buckle up folks. We may launch an invasion into our neighbors to the south because, because why? Because we don't think the Mexican government is doing enough Now, they haven't even told us what enough means, but I mean, JD Vance was like, you know, we, we hope they're doing enough. You don't even know what enough means. They did everything they asked for to avoid the tariffs and they still got tariffed. So, you know, maybe set some standards or maybe, and this is a better option, don't threaten to invade our neighbors with the full might of the United States military. I don't think that is going to end well for anyone involved.
