Advocacy groups and legal experts in South Africa are pushing to change the term "child pornography" to "child sexual abuse material" in criminal law. They argue that the current term implies child consent and minimizes the reality of victimization.
In its 2021 report, the South African Law Commission recommended this change in the Sexual Offences Act and Child Justice Act.
