Officials in California are warning wildfire victims and other residents to be vigilant of price gouging and other scams as many fraudsters may try to take advantage during the crisis caused by the deadly wildfires.
"I want to be clear, that goes for not only individuals who are preying on these locations -- but for corporations and businesses and the price gouging," LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said. "We want to hold businesses accountable as well."
If you live in California and believe you have been the victim of price gouging, you can report it to authorities by calling (800) 593-8222.
According to California Penal Code 396, owners and landlords from increasing prices and rents by more than 10% during a state of emergency
