"Wind of Change" by Scorpions was written by Klaus Meine in 1989, inspired by the political shifts in Eastern Europe and the fall of the Berlin Wall. The band had played at the Moscow Music Peace Festival, where Meine was moved by the sight of Soviet and Western fans united through music. That experience led him to write the song, which became an anthem for German reunification and the end of the Cold War. Ironically, the song was originally written in English, but Scorpions later recorded a German version to better capture the emotion of the moment. Despite whispers of CIA involvement in its creation (a theory that’s never been proven), it remains one of rock’s most powerful political ballads.
