Unreleased Doo Wop acetate from The Bronx. It’s a bit of a confusing one to try and figure out. On this acetate itself, both sides have Al Reno’s name on it. Al’s real name was Alfred Di Paolo. He sang with a few groups, but I think most group harmony guys will associate him with the The Selections. The very same group who sang “Soft & Sweet” b/w “Guardian Angel” (which Al Reno sang lead on as well.) I’ve learned however, that both sides of this acetate were released on “Zip” records, only - not credited to Al Reno! On the Zip 45, both sides are credited to Mike Prisco. No mention of any group. Apparently this is considered to be one of the rarest White Doo Wop records out there. Coincidentally, this acetate was discovered a while back by a good friend of mine! This acetate was found in the basement of his parents house, which they purchased from the Mancuso family in 1979. The Mancuso name appears on the writers credit to “Soft & Sweet.” My friend later traded the acetate to Ed Engel of Crystal Ball Records fame.
