When I first started playing guitar, I resisted learning theory because I didn't think it applied to METAL. At my first guitar lesson, my teacher handed me the 7 modes of the major scale. "Learn these by next week", he said. I threw it away and quit instead. Years later at music school, I realized that was a huge mistake!
