Semi-generative, granular, dub techno experiment with NO traditional VCO, VCF, EG, VCA, or sequencer. What’s left you ask? Three granular modules, a tape delay that self-oscillates, a random voltage generator and a reverb.
Personal notes/for next time:
-it really difficult to get good levels, so it's a little bit quieter than I would have liked
-most of the parameters on Nebulae and Magneto were so fine touch I couldn't even modulate them
-a 2 or 4 channel VCA would have made a world of difference
-also would be fun to try this again with a Chance + quantizer/Arp instead of pre-recorded playing
Patch Notes:
-Magneto generated 100% of the sounds you hear...with no other input
-Magneto (Shift mode) was recorded into Nebulae playing quasi-chord/arpeggios by hand using the Speed knob
-Nebulae is pitched up and pulling grains of those chord/notes out as dub stabs. However, without an envelope, they still needed to be shorter “stabs”
-Nebulae is routed to Monsoon (Clouds mode) where it is pitched way down and even smaller stabs are pulled out, with a little feedback/reverb too
-Monsoon is routed to Magneto which is now playing it’s normal role as a tape delay, but getting input of its own previously recorded sounds
-Different tape heads and some modulation are what give that dynamic dub techno feel
-Magneto “tap” serves as the clock. Subdivisions are routed to Chance and used to “Play” Morphagene which is the bass
-Bass: Nebulae’s loop (apprx) was recorded into a reel of Morphagene then pitched way down and reversed
-Chance is modulating Morphage Gene size to increase/decrease every so slightly you can hear the bass randomly switch between 2 and 3 pulses.
-Morphagene is routed to FX Aid with a Reverb preset.
Some EQ and Limiting was needed to reduce noise and add some level back. Added a tiny amount of shimmer to carry everything through.
