Today’s episode is about the Industrial Revolution that happened in the late 1700’s. It is one of the most important events in the history of humanity.
In this time Europe and the United States went from producing things with hands to producing them with machines instead, especially with the use of steam power and water-power.
It started in Britain, and it was one of the main reasons the British empire became the biggest in history by the 20th Century.
Before the revolution about 15% of the people lived in urban areas, but that increased to 85% because of it.
Some notable inventions during this time are:
• The Spinning Jenny used for spinning wool or cotton,
• The Steam Engine, which burned coal to create steam and move a piston, which was initially mainly used to pump water out of coal mines so they could get more coal
• The locomotive which makes trains move
• And then also the photographs, telegraphs, typewriters and electric generators
