The pulse of the 6/8 time signature (think clapping or tapping your foot) is typically felt on beat 1 and beat 4. This does not mean you have to play on either of these beats however. This exercise is a way of practicing clean bass and snare tones while getting used to the pulse and feel of 6/8. A lot of contemporary pop and rock songs in this time signature have a bass drum on beat one and a snare on beat four. Of course this not always the case. As you get used to the pulse try taking some of the notes out or placing the accent in different places. For instance perhaps just having an accent on beat one, or moving the accent of beat four to beat five. Practice, and experiment as you grow.
