This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Ford Explorer Hybrid. The Ford Explorer Hybrid is a mid-size 3-row SUV with seating for up to 7-passengers. The latest Ford Explorer SUV is now equipped with a new hybrid system using a 3.3L V6 gasoline engine and an electric system to produce 318hp and 322 lb.-ft. of torque. this is much more power and torque compared to the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which uses a 2.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine and hybrid system to produce 243hp. The Toyota Hylander Hybrid uses a CVT and this Ford Explorer Hybrid has a conventional 10-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Explorer Hybrid Crossover vehicle gets 11.7L/100km in the city and 8.6L/100km on the highway, which is much more than the Toyota Highlander 6.6L/100km in the city and just 6.8L/100km on the highway. The handling of the Ford Explorer utility is strong thanks to a new RWD based platform and a good turning radius. The interior of the Ford Explorer Hybrid is a bit of a letdown with plenty of hard plastic, poor fitting materials and a small 8-inch touch screen. The interior works well and the dash is logical but the material and finish is below the industry average. Unlike the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which has 7 or 8-passenger seating the Explorer has only 6 or 7-passenger capability.
