The 3D Touch feature, introduced by Apple in 2015 with the iPhone 6s, allowed the iPhone to detect varying levels of pressure on the screen, enabling a range of interactions based on how firmly a user pressed. With 3D Touch, users could "peek" at content with a light press to preview it, and "pop" with a firmer press to open it fully. The feature also provided shortcuts to app functions and enabled unique interactions in games and other apps.
However, Apple discontinued 3D Touch with the release of the iPhone 11 in 2019, replacing it with Haptic Touch. Unlike 3D Touch, which was pressure-sensitive, Haptic Touch uses long presses and provides a haptic vibration as feedback, offering similar functionality without detecting varying pressure levels.
