Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has refused to accept the Nigerian police’s bail conditions, choosing to remain in custody instead. The police had required Sowore to submit his passport and provide a Grade Level 17 officer as surety, equivalent to a permanent secretary. Sowore had been invited by the police for questioning after posting a viral video accusing officers at a Lagos checkpoint of extortion. Sowore's decision to stay in custody raises further questions about his treatment and the conditions placed on his release.
