This is considered the creepiest tree in the Philippines, but what exactly does it do? Locally known as the Balete Tree, it is a type of strangler fig—a tree that grows by wrapping its roots around another tree until it DIES. However, many are scared of this tree due to its feared reputation rooted in Philippine folklore, passed down through generations. It is believed to house mythical creatures like the infamous dark giant Kapre and linked urban legends, such as the white lady of Balete Drive. Despite this, The Balete tree is an important home for many animals and is also protected for its cultural significance. The Balete might seem scary but - I think it looks awesome.
