James Taylor & Band – 'Mexico' - Live at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2009

Date & Location: SATURDAY 11 JULY 2009 • MAAS • 18:30 - 19:45 – Ahoy Hall, Rotterdam, The Netherlands

It's time to pay attention to this great country.
Here are the lyrics of this James Taylor composition:

Mexico

Way down here, you need a reason to move
Feel a fool, runnin' your stateside games
Lose your load, leave your mind behind, baby James
Oh, Mexico
It sounds so simple, I just got to go
The sun's so hot, I forgot to go home
Guess I'll have to go now
Americano got the sleepy eye
But his body's still shakin' like a live wire
Sleepy señorita with the eyes on fire
Oh, Mexico
It sounds so sweet with the sun sinkin' low
The moon's so bright, like to light up the night
Make everything all right
Baby's hungry and the money's all gone
The folks back home, don't wanna talk on the phone
She gets a long letter, sends back a postcard
Times are hard
Oh, down in Mexico
I've never really been, so I don't really know
Oh, Mexico
I guess I'll have to go
Oh, Mexico
I've never really been but I'd sure like to go
Sing, whoa, Mexico
I guess I'll have to go now
Talkin' 'bout in Mexico (Mexico)
In a honky-tonk down in Mexico, oh
Oh, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
Oh, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
Oh, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
Oh, Mexico

ABOUT (press release of the concert)
James Taylor is a man from another era. Together with Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Carole King, Cat Stevens and others, he used to impress with craftily written songs at the beginning of the70s. But Taylor was something else; his voice truly grabbed you. That inviting, somewhat drawling, sonorous voice touched many a tender spot. Today, Taylor is still the same intelligent, cautious and warm man. Exactly like in his pictures and performances. In the 70s, he experienced some difficult times but he never belied his distinct style. The man from North Carolina has been very productive these last years and his latest outburst is his album Covers from 2008, which is filled with his favorite songs. Taylor is a superstar, but it isn't something he enjoys. 'I have a lot of good friends, such as Neil Young and Bob Dylan. They all say they dislike the fuss, but I know better than that. They thrive in the limelight; I only thrive with my guitar in my hands.' This time he brings along a line-up of pure top-of-the-bill artists, truly a Band of Legends. He is accompanied by the legendary drummer Steve Gadd, bassist Jimmy Johnson, keyboardist Larry Goldings and guitarist Michael Landau.
