On 27 September, Israel carried out an apocalyptic bombing attack on Beirut’s southern suburb, killing Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general of the Lebanese resistance group Hizballah.
Many civilians were killed in the massive bombing that destroyed multiple residential buildings in the densely populated Dahiya neighborhood.
A towering figure, Nasrallah’s death is a severe blow to supporters of the Axis of Resistance. The strike, praised and supported by the United States, gave Israel a surge of confidence after a year of military failure in Gaza.
We speak to Roqayah Chamseddine in Beirut about Israel’s killing of Nasrallah and the situation in Lebanon as Israel escalates its bombardment of the country and Hizballah defends it against a possible Israeli invasion.
Roqayah is a Southern Lebanese researcher and reporter and co-host of the Delete Your Account podcast.
