Description:
Did you know the United States is more than just 50 states? While most people remember Hawaii, almost everyone forgets about America’s territories scattered across the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean.
From Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands—over 3.5 million U.S. citizens live in these often-overlooked places. That’s more than 1% of the U.S. population!
But here’s the twist: not all U.S. territories are inhabited, and there are still three more territories you probably don’t know about. Can you name them?

Did you know that the U.S. is not just 50 states? When thinking about the United States, many people remember Hawaii, but almost everyone forgets about the other territories. There’s Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea, while in the Pacific you’ll find Palmyra Atoll, Kingman Reef, Johnston Atoll, Midway Atoll, Wake Island, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Howland Island, Baker Island, American Samoa, and Jarvis Island.
This might seem insignificant, but together these territories are home to about 3.55 million U.S. citizens—that’s more than 1% of the country’s total population—even though only five of them are actually inhabited.
But there are three more U.S. territories. Do you know which ones?
