Ai-Wen Wu Kratz’s paintings pursue spirituality, intellectualism, and aesthetics. Inspired by literature, classical music, vocal art, and the choreographic lines of ballet and modern dance, her images offer a visual sanctuary from the weariness of life.

The depth of her paintings are created by the mingling of acrylics and the natural hues of the raw, and sometimes shaped, canvases she paints on.

A native of Hong Kong, Ai-Wen Wu Kratz grew up looking down on the densely populated city of Hong Kong from a high-rise apartment building, which she says fostered her ability to cope, and instilled within her a dutiful sense of community and wellness, while her imagination for creativity emerged from her self-made toys.
She is an alumna of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. She has had solo exhibitions in France, Germany, England, and Austria. Her paintings can also be seen in collections in Canada, Germany, Bangladesh, Argentina, and the United States, including the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in St. Louis, Missouri. Her gallery representation includes AHC (Art History Consulting) in Hamburg, Germany and Agora Gallery New York City.
