This is one of the most fun parts of writing a new melodic techno track: I always get a basic loop going and do some live improvisation on top to get a feel of how to build the track and come up with some 'heat of the moment' ideas.
Using as good as all the hardware synths in the studio at once ! It's almost like flying a space ship :D

Roland TR-8S: Drums
Roland Jupiter Xm: JD-800 resonance pad + SH101 'acid' bassline
Arturia PolyBrute: Low pad + 'filter stabs' (improvised using the morphee)
Korg M1: Deep space pad
Yamaha CS1x: Pulse arpeggio
Yamaha Reface CS: Filter LFO sound
Yamaha TX81Z: Electric piano
