Spain is turning into a desert, and here's why. Most of the country, about 74%, is already on its way to becoming desert, and 18% is at risk of crossing a point of no return. This mainly affects places like Valencia and Andalusia. The big cause of desertification in Spain is climate change. It's bringing more droughts, heatwaves, and deforestation, making it harder for Spain's farmlands. This is a huge problem because Spain sends a lot of its farm products to Europe.
Madrid is facing a huge crisis because of this desertification. If it continues, it might mess up global supply chains, leading to serious problems for the rest of the world. Part of the problem is that some farmers use too much water and farm too intensively. These practices are wearing out the soil and draining Spain's water sources. People are trying to fight desertification with reforestation, sustainable land practices, and cool ideas like collecting water from fog or doing regenerative farming. But to really make a difference, these solutions need to be used on a large scale.
