Why Did South Sudan and Sudan split !?
Until 2011, Sudan was the largest country in Africa, but looking at religion distribution, the country was already divided before 2011, the south being Christian and the north being predominant Muslim.
As the government of the country was located in Khartoum, the Muslim side, the south felt it was neglected and disadvantaged, and these tensions led to a civil war which lasted more than 20 years until 2005 when a peace agreement was signed by the two parts.
The south was allowed to decide by vote if it should become an independent country or not. With 99% of votes in favor, South Sudan became an independent country on 9th of July 2011, having its capital at Juba.
