Today’s short video is on a very beautiful ornamental plant – that is portulaca grandiflora. How to grow Moss rose, Table rose, Rose moss, sometimes button rose. And how to grow moss rose from cuttings.

Portulaca grandiflora is a flowering plant in the family Portulacaceae. It is native to Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay and is a very common ornamental plant grown in home gardens.
It has many common names, like I already said - rose moss, eleven o'clock, Mexican rose, moss rose, Vietnam Rose, sun rose, rock rose and moss-rose purslane.
In Pakistan it is called Gul Dopheri, meaning After Noon Flower, as flowers bloom whole after noon in summer's heat. In Bangladesh, it is called "time fuul", meaning "time flower", because the flower has a specific time to bloom. In India, it is called "nau bajiya" or "9 o'clock flower" as it blooms in morning around 9:00 am.
It is a small, but fast-growing annual plant growing to max 1 feet tall. The leaves are thick and fleshy and arranged alternately or in small clusters. The flowers are 2–3 cm in diameter and come in many colors like red, orange, pink, white, and yellow.
It is commonly grown in temperate climates as an ornamental plant for garden bedding or as a container plant commonly in hanging pots or baskets. It requires good amount of sunlight and well-drained soils. It is a zero maintenance palnt and requires hardly any attention and care. It spreads itself very easily.
Now Propagation of Moss Rose: By Seeds or by cuttings. Seeds are often sold as mixtures, such as Double Flowering Mixture and you can also harvest the seeds easily from flowers. Collect the flowers and allow them to dry in sun for about 2 – 3 days and you can find tiny seeds collected at the flower base, just turn the bed upside down and tap or crush it gently to drop the seeds.
Also it can be easily grown from cuttings. Just pinch off some small cuttings from the plant and insert them in a well drained soil and see the best results.
