Roger Hatcher was a first cousin of Charles Hatcher aka Edwin Starr, who got his start in the music business in Detroit in the mid-1960's. In 1968, Hatcher relocated to Nashville when he signed with Excello Records and released several recordings on Excello from 1968 through 1970. Hatcher had two releases on the Stax subsidiary label, Volt, in 1972 before heading back to Detroit and recording, Caught Making Love, on the Black Soul label. That recording was leased to Columbia Records in 1974 for a chance at wider distribution.
