Corbett was a Ward 4 director for the park district since 2016 and served as a member of the state Senate from 2006 to 2014 and the state Assembly from 1998 to 2004. She was the second woman in history to be Senate majority leader in the California State Senate. Corbett focused on policy questions affecting consumer rights and environmental preservation, writing over 160 laws signed into law. She was also the board president of the East Bay Regional Parks from January 2020 to January 2021. Corbett was a strong environmentalist and grew up in the East Bay, earning degrees from Mc George School of Law and the University of California at Davis.
