We took two flights, from Calgary to Los Angeles and then from Los Angeles to Lima. The second was an overnight flight, and baby slept...well, like a baby!
In this video, we will share tips for flying with a baby, what we did right, and the one thing we did very wrong.
✈️ Tips for Flying with a Baby for the First Time ✈️
00:30 - Vlog of first flight with baby
11:06 - Be the first to board the plane
12:14 - Keep the stroller and gate check it

14:46 - Keep the baby awake at the airport
15:43 - Feed the baby during take off and landing
16:47 - Bring some toys for entertainment on the plane

✈️👶 Join Samuel & Audrey’s first international flight with 6-month-old Aurelia!
We went from Calgary → LAX → Lima with seven hacks that worked and one big miss. Here’s everything in order:
1️⃣ Intro & Trip Tease
Samuel & Audrey kick off: “We just survived our first flight with baby Aurelia from Canada down to Peru. Two flights, a long layover, 7 things we did right—1 thing we did wrong. Let’s go!”
2️⃣ Boarding Pass Blunder
Attempt to print passes… end up in the domestic terminal for an international trip. Door 2 instead of Door 16 means a nice long airport dash.
3️⃣ Terminal Trek
Counting doors (“What are we at now? Nine…”) as we haul a sleepy baby toward Gate 16, hoping she conks out on board.
4️⃣ Lunch Delivery Sprint
Sam dashes off for turkey Subway subs with all the veggies & sauces while Audrey juggles bag drop, check-in and boarding-pass chaos.
5️⃣ Pass Glitch at Check-In
Only two boarding passes print (Samuel & Grandma); Audrey & Aurelia must sort the missing ones at LAX due to a system glitch.
6️⃣ VIP Security Perk
Aurelia’s selective crying during screening lands us in the Nexus VIP line—no request needed, just perfect timing.
7️⃣ Extra Baggage Screening
Four bags flagged: baby food tested, camera gear & stroller inspected head to toe—added panic before boarding.
8️⃣ Last-Minute Dash
Immigration looms with 12 minutes to spare. Thank baby’s meltdown for fast-track clearance!
9️⃣ Baby’s First Flight
Aurelia takes her aisle debut. Parents brace for an opera-style cry—comforted by the “we’ll never see these people again” thought.
🔟 In-Flight Moments
First 1.5 hours: nap time. Then playful coos, “train” rides on her seat and munching on snacks.
1️⃣1️⃣ Flight #1 Debrief
Touchdown: baby earns an A (upgraded after VIP line!), with compliments from crew & neighbours boosting parental egos.
1️⃣2️⃣ LAX Layover Fuel-Up
Four-hour wait: swapped burgers for wood-fired pepperoni pizza. Baby fusses while we order but calms down with stroller laps.
1️⃣3️⃣ Welcome to Peru!
Elevator ride into Lima airport: “Welcome to Peru, baby!” moment, followed by excitement for flight #2.
🌟 7 Things We Did Right
1) Early boarding to stow luggage overhead & settle Aurelia pre-taxi
2) Stroller in tow for lighter arms & comfy rides right to the gate
3) Flight timing during her nap & bedtime—7 hours of in-flight zzzs
4) Layover strategy: marathon strolls to drain her battery before takeoff
5) Breastfeeding on ascent/descent to equalize ear pressure
6) Entertainment kit: suction-cup spinner, squeaky bear, chewy ring & plastic cup
7) Onboard purees for extra snack power beyond milk
⚠️ 1 Big Mistake
Underestimated airport time—gave ourselves 2 hours instead of 3–3.5 hours. With a baby, everything takes longer!
🤱 Baby to the Rescue
Her timely tears at security flipped our blunder into blessing with VIP fast-track.
