This old man was trying to sell his cabbages. He asked every passersby but everyone turned him down. So he sat down sad, not knowing what to do. This whole scene was witnessed by a man in a car.
When the old man saw him, he happily ran over to ask if he wanted any cabbages. The old man is in his 80s and has to walk 2 hours to reach the market everyday and then 2 hours back. He sold a few cabbages that day but the last 3 are damaged. He was trying to get them for $1 each. If he doesn't sell them all, he'd have to take them all back.
The young man, sympathizing with the old man, bought all the cabbages from him knowing no one else would buy them. He also gave the old man $100 instead. And told the old man to keep the change. And even gave the old man two more envelops of money. It's likely a couple hundreds more. The old man was very shocked and tried to return the money but obviously the young man wouldn't let him.
Some old people in villages grow vegetables to sell. The cost of living in much lower there but each bowl of noodles is still $3 at least. Or around $10 in certain areas. Most of the old villagers don't make much money and don't buy from restaurants. They live simples frugal lives. But things are changing because many of their children and grandchildren are already living in cities and don't return to the villages for the most part.
Thankfully, there are kind people like this young man who go out of his way to help these old villagers to make sure they don't starve.
