Having got her first job in interiors as John Fowler’s assistant in the late 1940s, Imogen Taylor has a perspective on decorating that few today can match. Her career at Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler spanned more than 50 years, most of them as a director at the company. There she created countless beautiful interiors all over the world, and became an invaluable mentor to new generations of decorators and designers. We visited her at her house in Kent, bought by her parents in 1949 and beautifully restored by her father, whose own genius for craft and decoration was one of Imogen’s earliest influences.
