Click here: The Mint Julep is a fantastic way to enjoy good American Bourbon! the drink first made its appearance in the southern United States during the late 1700s. It was viewed as a bit of a status symbol, reserved only for the rich (mainly because good ice was hard to come by as were the famous silver cups or pewters they were served in.

in the decades to follow, while it was no longer reserved for the super rich, the Mint Julep remained an ever popular drink in the south and In 1938, it became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby.

Recipe:
10-12 Mint Leaves
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
2.5 oz Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish with Mint.

Classically it was made with a teaspoon of powdered sugar, but Simple Syrup is just easier to work with.

The original recipe had no bitters but it's not uncommon today to see the Mint Julep served with bittes.
