Did you know Germany once tried to claim Antarctica?
So during WWII when Germany was going ham on its neighbors, it realized that the Antarctic Treaty had not been signed so anyone could claim Antarctica.
As a result Germany sent an expedition led by Alfred Ritscher to claim some of this land. Alfred landed here and claimed this area by throwing the no no German signs and named it New Swabia,
However after losing both Germanys dropped their claim, but it was later claimed by Norway which named it Queen Maud Land.
