In “Bay Area Now 9,” Filipinx artist, filmmaker, and educator champoy presents an invitation to collective repair through an installation where their intergenerational community can tend to a bangka (canoe) in a dreamlike, underwater space with paddles floating above. Beneath the bangka is a buwaya (crocodile) made of tule, awakening from its eighth dream of other worlds and ways of being in a world connected by water.
Watch the story about champoy’s work to see how they create this installation with deep guidance and support from elders and diasporic community to find collectivity in the past, present, and future.
