We’ve had a pretty wet start to autumn and worried it might lead to another winter like last year. But to our surprise, the past two weeks have brought clear skies and warm, summerlike days. It’s been a welcome relief—and a bit of a blessing—allowing us to make progress on the barn excavation. While Philippe waits for the soil to dry out completely, he’s been diving into the tractor project. After last week’s prep work, it’s now time to split the tractor apart and tackle what Claude suspects might be a frozen clutch.

Once the clutch is out, it’s clear it’s not just stuck—it’s heavily worn, with some bolts broken. The next step? Removing the clutch from the second tractor and swapping it into this one. Of course, that means splitting the other tractor apart too. This second tractor, which we found abandoned in the fields, is a long-term project we’ll tackle later. For now, it’ll stay stored in the old barn once renovations are done.

On top of that, this week we’re also testing out two Reolink cameras: a battery-powered doorbell and a wildlife camera! A few days later we get some really unique images showing activity we've never seen before. And as Philippe sources parts for the tractor, he heads back to the excavation, hoping the soil has finally dried out enough to continue digging.
